Clay is a very versatile medium, and works well with all manner of tools and techniques. The flexibility and patterning in a variety of textiles collaborate well with the plasticity of clay, making detail work fast and easy.
In this workshop you will:
- Use the hand building techniques of slab, pinch, and coil to create a form
- Decorate the form with lace, knit fabric, and woven canvas textures
What you will walk away with:
- knowledge of which stages of clay dryness lend themselves best to shaping
- Making impressions
- How to use molds as support structures and building blocks
Who is this workshop best for?
Suited for experienced potters as well as beginner ceramic artists. All are welcome!

Clay, textiles, and molds
What must attendees bring?
Participants are encouraged to bring any textiles that they believe will make interesting textures. Be warned that they will get dirty, so no treasured heirlooms!
Other important info
- Firing is not included.
- Members: Firing charged at regular member rate of $0.04 per cu-in.
- For non-members:
- If you wish to glaze your piece at the studio, you will purchase a $35 glaze pass and glaze firing will be $0.08 per cu-in. Reach out to [email protected] and we will set you up for firing!
- If you wish for Hey Clay to glaze your piece, then it will be $25 per piece. You will submit this once the workshop is completed.

They draw inspiration from the histories and traditions of ceramics, glass, textiles, and woodwork to create art that is an extension of the individual craft. By combining different mediums and methods, he is creating a practice where boundaries are arbitrary and tradition can be rewritten.
